VR TOOLBOX, INC. SHIPS WINDOWS VERSIONS OF ITS ENTIRE PRODUCT LINE
OF AUTHORING TOOLS FOR QUICKTIME VR.
Pittsburgh,
PA, February 19, 1999 -- VR Toolbox, Inc. today officially announced
that it would begin shipping the Windows versions of VR ObjectWorx,
VR PanoWorx and VR SceneWorx, the second week of March 1999.
This will put the company in the unique position of being the only maker
of full-featured authoring tools for QuickTime VR, whose entire
product line is available cross-platform. VR Toolbox began introducing
its line of QTVR tools in October 1998, when it shipped the Macintosh
versions of VR ObjectWorx and VR PanoWorx. It rounded out the offering
the first week of January 1999, when it began shipping VR SceneWorx
for Macintosh. Now all three of these tools are available for Windows.
This spring, the company will offer its yet-to-be-released suite of tools,
The VR Worx, for both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
The tools create files that are interchangeable between platforms. A user
can begin a panoramic project with VR PanoWorx for Macintosh and finish
the same project by opening the file in VR PanoWorx for Windows, and vice
versa. The Windows versions encompass all but a few features of their
Macintosh siblings. The built-in Image Editor is not yet available for
Windows, and VR ObjectWorx does not support sound or blue-screening as
its Macintosh counterpart does. VR Toolbox promises to include these along
with features new to both platform versions, in future upgrades.
The VR Toolbox current product line is comprised of VR ObjectWorx, VR
PanoWorx and VR SceneWorx. At the core of the line are authoring tools
that produce the two basic elements of QuickTime VR, panoramic movies
(VR PanoWorx) and object movies (VR ObjectWorx). It is rounded out with
VR SceneWorx, a multi-node scene designer that creates photo-realistic,
interactive, virtual environments quickly, simply and professionally
on
the desktop computer. VR PanoWorx produces interactive, 360-degree, virtual
QTVR panoramic movies, allowing the viewer to turn in all directions
to
see a vista from every angle. VR ObjectWorx generates interactive QTVR
object movies, which simulate the illusion of the viewer holding an object
in the hand and rotating it to view it from all sides. VR SceneWorx combines
panoramas, objects, still images and linear QuickTime movies into
an immersive imagery experience for audiences on the Internet and in
multimedia
environments. Encompassing many QTVR capabilities along with features
and functions that no other programs offer, VR Toolbox touts its product
line as the ideal QTVR tools for content providers. Plus, VR Toolbox
can
now claim one other advantage, the products are the only ones available
for both Macintosh and Windows.
Both platforms have the same retail pricing structure: VR PanoWorx and
VR ObjectWorx sell for $149.99 and VR SceneWorx sells for $89.99.
VR Toolbox, Inc. is a young company that made its debut on July 21, 1998
at SIGGRAPH 98 in Orlando, Florida. The company's focus is the development
and marketing of software tools for QuickTime VR. VR Toolbox aims to deliver
precision, power and professionalism to all segments of the Immersive
Imaging market, including professional photographers, web developers,
multimedia producers, educators and hobbyists. VR Toolbox, Inc. has acquired
this technology from its creators, Florida-based Econ Technologies, Inc.
Pittsburgh-based VR Toolbox, Inc. promises to continually strive to be
an exciting, important and influential force within the Immersive Imaging
industry and its emerging technologies. VR Toolbox's financial strength
comes from the same source as that of its sister company, Emery Manufacturing & Equipment,
Inc.(TM), makers of high line object rotational devices and hardware for
the Immersive Imaging photographic professional.
Apple Computer, Inc.(TM) developed QuickTime VR as an integral aspect
of its QuickTime media layer. Through Apple's vigorous support of the
technology's adoption as an industry standard, QuickTime is succeeding
in becoming the cross-platform standard, worldwide. And now, with Apple's
release of QuickTime 3.0 for Windows and Macintosh, QuickTime VR v2.1
and streaming QuickTime Plug-In v2.0, that standard's acceptance is being
achieved. QuickTime VR is an extension of Apple's basic QuickTime technology
and supports two different types of views, QTVR panorama movies and QTVR
object movies.
